notes for a presentation

August 15, 2009

The structure/ what is known;

A beginning game (something with ball)
A middle game (some sort of dance)
An end game (blind eyes?)

3 or 4 times there is an interaction with the audience
(blurring boundaries between communicating with
eachother and with the audience

Each activity begins with a memory
(retreat away from the audience and the action in order to restart)

Each memory starts from MOOD

We can exit
(leaving space or joining audience are both possible)

We have a slide show, microphone, music, light.

We have lots of materials, objects in the space
(to trigger memories)

Can we run out of memories?

and if you’re lucky you may get a performance

August 11, 2009

IMG_2197IMG_2191IMG_2191

We start from a mood

We remember

Once we act, we are no longer in the memory but
we are reviving the memory, making it ALIVE

And – if – you’re – lucky – you – may – get – a – performance

(in)equality

August 11, 2009

yin-yang

Juno/Kat are the performers
Juno 12    kat 48
SON          MOTHER

Creating strategies and situations and actions in which
(in)equality can hover , can manifest, can emerge
BUT
Not searching anymore for (in)equality.
Instead being alert, opening up to the possibility of

TOGETHERNESS
SINGULARITY

There are different ways to be together and different ways to be singular/alone
They are polarized and in each other, they are interdependent

(In)Equality seems to be contained in togetherness and singularity
and in the recognition of difference.

Between BLACK AND WHITE between TOGETHER AND SEPARATE
WE CAN MEET

function/meaning

August 11, 2009

A proposal of function/no meaning;

IMG_2073

Actions, relationships, music, images
should have a function and not a meaning.

Everything we do and decide to show is made without meaning.

We breathe, we don’t DO breath as a symbolic gesture.

We play ball in real time, not as a performative gesture.

IMG_2050

We do what we do, because it is what makes sense,
what makes us curious, what excites us,

what is real in that moment.

the audience (Igor)

August 10, 2009

IMG_2066IMG_2067

Today we played again for the audience (Igor)
There were some beautiful things but we decided
not to comment on what we ( juno/kat) do and not
to judge what is good or not good but to talk about how
we relate
how to develop the parameters and external elements around us.

The audience (Igor) sat on a chair most of the time.
One hour and five minutes.
He took a rice cake offered by Juno and ate it.
He sat on the floor and posed for our upside down world with
a banana in his right hand. He ate the banana and ended our
drawing action.
He laughed when the ball flew out of the open window.
He wrote things in his little book.
He timed one minute for two times;
a fast minute and a slow minute;
he wasnt sure if they were both 60 seconds.
He agreed when I said ‘let’s finish”
He talked with us before and after

IMG_2062IMG_2063IMG_2064

IMG_2070kat says

I am in the performing space and day by day I observe
how the audience (Igor) constructs, suggests a performance
around our actions. The performative memory game starts to
emerge , to motivate action, to create possiblities to continue,
drop, intensify, be alone, be together,  leave, come back, invent.

29………….

because each time we do something we create a memory and each time
we remember
we can act and do again and we can just keep doing things or not
and then we have more memories and more things we can add to this list
and the whole complexity of how memory is functioning can slowly emerge.

This list is simply a list of things we can use (if it excites us.) and it is
a part of our research into how memory can function and develop as
a process.

the rules of the game

August 8, 2009

there is an entrance from the back to the right (past) an exit from the front to the left (future)

there is a back of the now (wall) and a front of the the now (audience)

there is an encounter between mother (past) and son (future) in the now

there is a process of:

recollection – past

reconstruction – present

reinvention – future

the game of art

August 8, 2009

it is emerging as an art work from a foam of the everyday, moving along a grid of simple defining rules, bursting through a calculated openings, welcoming accidental and unpredictable. Private universe where temporary rules are getting practiced just to be transgressed in a sudden outbursts of a chance encounters between living substances.

igor

it is about…

August 7, 2009

400px-AdditiveColor-1.svg

spiraling  into no colour (black) and out of all colours (white) passing through red, blue, green, coming together and running away from each other, orbiting like planets, attracted and repelled, moving in circles of light and darkness.

igor

it is possible…

August 7, 2009

that they come in and go out, leave and join each other again…

that they whisper to each other softly, in the distance, so i can not hear them – but i can see, something is going on…

that they look at me and than forget about me and than look again — together, separately, as they feel like it…

that they care

for one another

or not

for me

or not

Audience, ehm…?

August 7, 2009

Today Igor said something about noticing the audience.
He said not to be shy or look away from the audience but just look at them.

We also did something with remembering.
Me and Katrina needed to remember things we did in La Gomera
and repeat them and make new things to go with it.
In La Gomera we made a spiral of sand,
in the studio here in A’dam we made a spiral of
blankets, cups, chairs, ourselves etc.
then  toilet paper rolled around my head…

Juno

habits and memories

August 7, 2009

I remember when we

do you remember when we?

IMG_1895IMG_1896IMG_1892

I cannot remember being any other way with you

Igor suggested to turn memories into a game into a performance.

Thinking of memory as something that can reach backwards
from the past, into the present and on towards the future.
Memory as a dynamic process, as un-fixed, changeable, playful, moving.

And
maybe a way to structure a performance

So I remember today,
Juno and I in the studio with Igor as audience.
A step that could shift
what Juno and I create together.
What we are/do together seems
raw and habitual,
personal and fragile,

with Igor we can maybe create a different frame and context.
That would be my aim now, to shift our memories and habits
of being/doing together into the theatre space.
